St Francis Catholic Primary School, Morley

Together in truth and faith we learn and grow as God's family.

Curriculum

Intent

At St Francis Catholic Primary School we believe that excellence is only achieved by nourishing the whole child through an understanding and development of the virtues taken from the teachings of the Catholic Church. As Saint Francis taught us, ‘The journey is essential to the dream’ and therefore our curriculum is designed to: recognise children’s prior learning, provide first hand learning experiences, allow the children to develop interpersonal and communication skills, build resilience and become creative, critical thinkers. We constantly provide enhancement opportunities to engage the learning of our pupils and truly believe that childhood should be a happy, investigative and enquiring time in our lives where there are no limits to curiosity and there is a thirst for new experiences and knowledge.

At our school every child is recognised as a unique individual with their own personal strengths and talents. Our children are taught to be reflective and appreciative of the worth and value of themselves and others.  We celebrate and welcome all differences within our school community.  We recognise that the ability to learn is underpinned by the teaching of basic skills, knowledge, concepts and moral values. Positive attitudes to learning are taught, which reflect the values and skills needed to promote responsibility for learning and future success.

Community involvement is an essential part of our curriculum as we celebrate local traditions, religious feast days and celebrations and learn new skills to enable the children to take an active role within their local area and the wider community.

Children leave our school with a sense of belonging to a tight knit community and have the confidence, aspirational attitudes and social skills to make decisions, self-evaluate, make connections and become lifelong learners who flourish as they embrace life’s challenges and opportunities in an ever- changing world.
